Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is a method for numerically modeling complex problems that are difficult to solve using empirical equations based on first principles. Like any modeling efforts, FEA results are heavily-dependent on user inputs: Garbage In, Garbage Out. Therefore, correctly understanding the physics and mechanics of an engineered system is required before any analysis is deemed accurate. A benefit in performing FEA with ADV Integrity is we use full-scale testing to validate numerical models. We can correlate a model’s output with the actual experienced behavior in the test lab to accurately simulate “real world” conditions. Vice versa, FEA can be used to predict failure regions in a system/component, which can be used to optimize conditions in a full-scale testing program. What makes ADV unique is our ability to integrate numerical modeling and full-scale testing to produce solutions for today’s pipeline integrity challenges.
